President’s Message
by Gary Embler, 2017 NCHBA President
Gary Embler

As I look back at the past year in my role as NCHBA President, I am humbled and in awe of what we’ve accomplished together. And looking to the future, I am excited for what’s to come in the year ahead.

First of all I want to say what a tremendous honor it has been to represent the almost 14,000 members who make up NCHBA. As I’ve traveled the state this past year, and in the previous two years that I’ve served as a senior officer, it has been a pleasure to meet many of you, hear your stories and gain a lot of valuable wisdom. I can tell you firsthand that our association is strong in spirit, numbers, and influence. It is because of our grit and determination that housing affordability continues to be an issue of relevance to both the public and lawmakers.

As you all know, defending the American Dream and protecting the well-being of our industry is hard work. This year would not have been as successful if not for the outstanding leadership and sacrifice of our regional vice presidents, senior officers, local HBA leaders and executive officers, and the NCHBA staff. This team has pulled together time and again to make sure that we are successful in our mission to make it possible for more North Carolinians to be able to own a home.

I also want to thank my family, including my wife Kelli and our daughters Kaelyn, Kelsie and Kristyn. This role requires a commitment of significant time and energy, so I appreciate their understanding, encouragement and love throughout the past year.

In addition, I would like to offer gratitude to our entire team at Niblock Homes who have supported me this year. You all have done an amazing job assisting me in supporting our industry. I can’t thank you enough for your sacrifices.

The year ahead is sure to be an exciting one as I hand the reigns off to Alan Banks. Alan is a tremendous leader, outside-the-box thinker, and all-around good guy whose skills will greatly benefit NCHBA. Great things to come!

As I said at the outset of this year, you all are my extended family. I am filled with hope for the future of our industry knowing that we’re in this fight together. Thanks to all the leaders who have served, and those who will serve in the future. Most of all, thank you for allowing me to serve such an outstanding organization, built by the very best –our members. We are blessed.

Happy New Year!
