The North Carolina Home Builders Association presented 50 prestigious STARS awards at the annual STARS Awards Gala on September 10 at the Omni Charlotte Hotel. The STARS Awards program honors the achievements of home building industry professionals from North Carolina and surrounding states.
Winners received recognition in areas such as marketing and advertising, web design, sales/information center, landscape design, interior merchandising, architecture/floor plan, remodeling/renovation and special projects. Awards were also given to local home builders associations.
The coveted Super Star Awards went to the following recipients:
Dennis Pless of DP Contracting & Consulting was named the Distinguished Builder Member of the Year. Pless is a member of the Cabarrus County Building Industry Association. Pless was nominated for outstanding leadership, service and dedication to his home builders association, particularly during the housing downturn, as well as for his work with the community, particularly with high school construction training programs.
The Distinguished Associate Member of the Year went to Judy Dinelle of 84 Lumber. Dinelle is a tireless industry advocate with her role as Building Ambassador with 84 Lumber, and she has shown outstanding dedication to her local, state and national HBAs. Dinelle

is particularly active in the Professional Women in Building Council. She also serves her community, volunteering for causes such as Habitat for Humanity and youth sports organizations. Dinelle is a member of the Asheville HBA, Henderson-Transylvania HBA, and the Smoky Mountain HBA (Haywood and Jackson Cos.).
The Community of the Year Award was given to Flowers Plantation in Clayton, NC. They are members of the Johnston County Building Industry Association and the HBA of Raleigh-Wake Co. Flowers Plantation was nominated for the outstanding way it honors the rich history of the land, showcases the area’s natural beauty and offers exceptional amenities to its residents. This is the second year in a row that Flowers Plantation has won the prestigious award.
The award for New Executive Officer of the Year went to Holly Fraccaro, the EO of the HBA of Durham, Orange & Chatham Counties. Fraccaro joined the HBADOC in 2013 and immediately became an engaged member of the home builders association federation as well as the home building industry. This award was limited to executive officers with less than three years’ experience.
Tim Minton of the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County was named Executive Officer of the Year. Minton leads the largest home builders association in the nation and is active in the North Carolina HBA as well as the National Association of Home Builders.
